General and Other Advice

General and Other Advice

In addition to the specialist housing, debt and welfare benefit services we provide general advice on a range of issues such as: consumer matters (e.g. problems with buying goods and services), insurance problems, neighbour issues, employment law, ombudsman schemes, disputes with public bodies, county court procedure and other civil matters.

We do not give immigration advice and cannot advise landlords in issues against tenants or employers in relation to issues against employees.

We also provide the following advice services.

Evening Legal Advice Session

This session runs one evening a week and it is staffed by volunteer lawyers. It provides brief advice on varies matters including amongst others consumer problems, matrimonial and family matters, general court matters and employment matters.

Water and Utility debt and Efficiency project

This project provides advice on Water and Utilities debt, efficiency and conservation. We can provide assistance with completion of grant application forms for various utility trusts. The Thames Water Trust Fund supports this project.

Walcot Grant and Student finance advice

Funded by the Walcot Foundation, this project provides advice on grants, budgeting and savings advice to individuals and students in need including advice and referral to agencies providing help on welfare to work.
For example, are you a student committed to gaining the education and/or training that will lead directly to employment? If so, do you need help with costs such as books travel, IT, field trips, childcare, special clothing or course fees? We can give you advice and maybe able to help you apply for a grant.
